Happy May everyone,
I guess I forgot to get us all making a new calendar page for the month of May. Can you build one? What can you put on it? We do have a holiday Monday in May so let’s make sure to add that in on May 18, so you get an extra long weekend to relax J. There is a printable if you want to make that one. Today, continue to read for 30 minutes and don’t forget that using Epic and listening to a book counts. There are read to me books, just remember to read along with the book because the more we read the better we get at it! Have you read anything exciting this week? Keep looking for good books for our meeting next week. In math how are you doing with double digit adding? Is it easy or confusing? Keep practicing with adding double digit numbers. Finish the pages I sent on Wednesday or do 6 more double digit questions yourself and pick your own numbers using 1-4. Play the double digit card game. Seesaw – there are a few more activities there for you. Start looking for shapes around your house this weekend and outside. Take pictures if you can and see how many you can find? Lastly, can you make a nest for a bird? What would you use to make it? Watch this video attachment to see what kind of nest you want to make. Then head outside and see if you can make one. What will you use, straw, clay, mud, feathers? Tell me what kind of bird would use your nest and take a picture for our website. Have fun and have a wonderful weekend! Reading – continue to read 30 minutes and research your animal. Can you tell me what animal you are researching? Writing- continue to fill in the animal research booklet and tell me about your animal. Draw me pictures and add a lot of details. Math – Double digit addition pages Practice double digit addition game by yourself or with a family member Make some number families- roll the dice get two numbers what is the third number going to be? Write it out. Go onto Starfall and choose some math activities to work on. Science – Project: Create a habitat for your animal. Find a small box or container and add the things that your animal would need to survive. Create a diorama to show where your animal lives. (use playdough, clay, lego, craft items or whatever you have at home) If you are finished that can you make a habitat outside for another animal? What animals do you see in your back yard? Where do mice, rabbits, coyote’s live? What do their homes look like?
I am always so excited to see what everyone is accomplishing at home! 1.a pothanger like people used in the old days, 2. a surfboard, 3. Art work wreath, 5. writing and a picture! Keep up the great work everyone!
Happy Monday everyone!
This week I am sending out a new project for everyone to work on if you are interested. Let your child choose an animal that they like and start to learn about it by reading about it and writing it down in the booklet. Students will write about themselves and about their choice of animal. Please feel free to do one topic/page a day or let them move through it at their speed. That means that it could take all week or more to work on it and create the final diorama for it. The diorama can be started at any point because it will be art and science rolled into one. Reading is built into this project so students can spend their reading time reading and writing down notes in their journal or into the booklet. Math – I am posting a math game video for you to try at home and will send you a print out. Some students are just copying it down since they do not have access to a printer. Way to go! For more math please go to starfall and spend 15 minutes working on the math apps. Try different ones and see what you can challenge yourself with. Spelling words – you have a new batch so do the same please. Outline, colour the vowels, draw a picture and make a sentence. Health – I have attached a booklet about coronavirus for children. Talk it through with your child and ease some of their anxieties by discussing any of their fears. This is the best way to help them to move forward in a healthy way. Please remember to participate in what you can and need to with no pressure from me.
Happy Friday everyone! I hope your week went well especially now that we can spend time outside. I’m going to try to give out outdoor activities today and on days when it looks like the weather is going to be good. Especially now when we have been stuck indoors. If you don’t have chalk for the math activities feel free to modify or do something else. Also, if you want to move around reading time and have it outside in the middle of the day that might be an idea to enjoy both together.
Have fun and have a great weekend! Art - Some friends of mine created this beautiful design with items from outside. Can you make something as well? Seesaw activities Math – Please spend a little time in math on Starfall on any app. 15 min or do some worksheets watch the video at the bottom of the page – hopscotch attach video, The video was for small children so I want my grade ½’s to create a hopscotch where they can count by 2’s, 3’s, 5’s or 10’s. Have fun creating as well as doing it. Be creative! You might make boxes that count 2,4,6, 8,10 etc Story telling - Build a story outside in the mud/water or yard and tell me about it.

Gwen PetersWho ever thought we would be living through a pandemic in the year 2020? Not I! When I created this page as a way to learn a new skill, I never realized that some day it would become a necessity in order to teach my class. I hope that this gives you some ideas and some direction as to what to do every day. My students and families are welcome to email me and keep me posted. Archives
